I feel that the biggest plus for this stretch is the open sky and lack of traffic. You can really feel alone here and immerse yourself in the thrumming of your bike. Really wonderful. And the cool air is welcome, especially after riding through the heat of the Northern Cape.
I did this ride while circumnavigating South Africa. Hardly any traffic, the Anenous pass makes things interesting, while the wide open sections are ideal for checking top speed.
